Fellowship Overview
This is a one-year clinical and research fellowship in Sexual, Reproductive, Transgender Medicine and Prosthetic Urology under the American Board of Urology. Specifically, the fellowship will provide expert and dedicated training in the diagnosis and management of male and female sexual dysfunction, male infertility, transgender surgery and prosthetic urology utilizing the most modern diagnostic tests and surgical techniques. Drs. Robert Krane, Irwin Goldstein and Robert Oates instituted The Boston University School of Medicine (now the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine) fellowship in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine almost three decades ago. The Department of Urology at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine has a long history of AUA/AFUD and clinical fellowships in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine. Many of our former fellows (Drs. Nehra, Mulhall, Seftel, Hakim, Kramer, etc.) are well-recognized experts in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Ricardo Munarriz, fellowship director, was an AFUD/AUA fellow in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine at Boston University between 2000 and 2002. Dr Robert Oates, core faculty member, completed his fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in 1988 under the mentorship of Dr Larry Lipshultz at Baylor. Dr. Munarriz has directed the fellowship since 2005. In 2015 the fellowship received Boston Medical Center (BMC) Non-Standard ACGME accreditation. In addition, the fellowship is recognized by the Sexual Medicine Society of North America and The Society of Prosthetic Urologic Surgeon. Surgical and clinic volume has tripled in the last ten years, making the Department of Urology an extremely busy academic and clinical center for Sexual, Reproductive and Transgender Medicine.
